Judging entries is based on 4 key factors: Innovativeness, Potential, Sustainability, and Effectiveness.

  • Innovativeness

    How unique is this solution in solving the stated problem? How innovative is the execution? How difficult was the technical challenge that was solved?

  • Potential

    Is there a clear path to ensure large-scale adoption?

  • Sustainability

    Can this solution be financially sustainable? Has the team thought through how to best reach & engage target users?

  • Effectiveness

    How effective is this solution in meeting the target user’s needs? Does this solution adequately address the problem or opportunity identified?

Data Economy Challenge

Where do I start?

Start by reviewing the info about specific challenge tracks and challenge rules, then study the Ocean Documentation and GitHub Repositories.

Should I work in a team?

We recommend you form and work together in dedicated Challenge Teams, ideally with a size of 2-6 people (maximum).

How do I submit my entry?

Challenge entry submissions must be made using the submission form - which will be available once the Challenge has officially opened.

Each entry can only be submitted once and cannot be submitted in multiple tracks.

What do I need to submit to fulfill the minimum submission requirements?

Please refer to details in the Submission Requirements section for each track.

Ocean reserves the right to reject any submission for any reason, and particularly will reject submissions that obfuscate, break laws, harm others, infringe on others intellectual property, or rely mainly on third-party plugins.

Can I get feedback and advice on my submission concept idea?

Yes! Members of the Ocean team will offer optional online sessions to provide teams with feedback and advice on submission concepts ideas & help with troubleshooting.

When is the submission deadline?

Submissions must be received no later than 15 January 2020 to be considered for prize rewards. It is possible to enter your submission before 15 January 2020. NOTE: The first 20 teams to submit an entry that fulfils the minimum submission requirements will receive 33,000 Ocean Tokens.

When are challenge winners announced?

All challenge winners (First Place, Second Place, Third Place) will be announced January 29, 2020. The winner of the Community Choice Award will be announced February 10, 2020.

When are prizes going to be distributed?

All prizes and rewards will be distributed within 15 days following the announcement of the prize winner(s).

What is the intellectual property policy for the challenge?

The intellectual property rights based on the solution, developed by a Participant or its Team during the Challenge, stays with the Team (all Participants in the team combined) and not with any Participant individually, except when a team is fully delegated by an employer, in which case the intellectual property rights will accrue to the employer, except when the employer and employee have made other arrangements.

My submission requires additional functionality in Ocean Protocol, what should I do?

If your submission requires functionality outside the current capabilities of the Ocean codebase, please contact the Ocean development team.

Is the Ocean Protocol network stable during the challenge?

Please understand that Ocean will continue to be under active development during the challenge. Ocean will do its best to inform challenge participants of major changes in a timely manner so you can take them into account for your own work.We will work hard to have minimal downtime, to the best of our abilities. Thank you in advance for understanding that we’re actively building the technology at the same time.
